Skydive Byron Bay (operated by Skydive Australia) runs from Tyagarah Airfield, 10 minutes north of town. 15,000 ft tandem jumps over the bay and headland with free transfers from Byron, Gold Coast and Brisbane — and the transfers are genuinely free, not "discounted from inflated retail". One of the most-booked single experiences for east-coast backpackers and a regular feature on bucket lists for visitors.

The view is the differentiator. From 15,000 ft you're looking straight down on Cape Byron Lighthouse, the headland, the surf line at The Pass, Tallow Beach stretching south, the entire bay. On a clear day, the Gold Coast skyline is visible to the north. It's easily one of the better skydive views in Australia and arguably the most photogenic backdrop for the inevitable Instagram moment.

Who it suits: anyone medically and weight-eligible (under 110 kg, basic fitness) who wants to do a tandem skydive in Australia. Truly no experience needed — this is a tandem (strapped to a qualified instructor), so the responsibility is theirs, the experience is yours. Solo travellers do this regularly; couples, friend groups all book together.

Pricing: from $369 for the 15,000 ft tandem (sometimes promo'd at $369 down from $379). Heads-up on the surcharges: +$50 if you're 95-105 kg, +$75 if 105-110 kg. Over 110 kg you can't jump (safety limits). Free transfers from Byron, Gold Coast and Brisbane — they pick you up, return you, no extra cost. Photos and video are extra ($150-250 depending on package); most jumpers don't book them on the spot but pre-paid sometimes saves money vs same-day.

What stands out: Skydive Australia is the largest skydive operator in the country, runs multiple drop zones, has the operational depth + safety record that smaller boutique operators can't match. Very high reliability — weather permitting, jumps run on schedule. The Byron drop zone specifically has been operating for years with strong safety stats.

The catch: weather cancellations. If cloud cover is low or winds are wrong, jumps cancel. They typically reschedule you to the next available slot — but if you're on a tight Byron timeline, this can be frustrating. Book early in your stay so you have rescheduling flexibility, not your last day.

We rate this as the highest-impact single $400 you can spend in Byron — for first-time skydivers especially, the Cape Byron view is a genuinely memorable backdrop and the operation is professional enough that the experience is about the jump, not the logistics.
