Byron Bay Coffee Co roastery: a backpacker's coffee education in 90 minutes
The hinterland roastery does a $20 walk-through that ends with a flat-white masterclass.

Byron Bay Coffee Co operates a working roastery in the hinterland that runs occasional tours for visitors. The 90-minute walk-through covers the bean origin (mostly direct-trade Honduras + Ethiopia), the roasting process, and finishes with a flat white tasting flight where a barista talks you through the four cups they've pulled.
It's not as widely known as the Stone & Wood brewery tour, partly because it's further out (15 minutes drive west of the CBD, no public transport). If you're in Byron for more than a few days and you're a coffee person, it's worth the Uber.
The cafe + roastery shop also stocks Australia-sourced beans you won't find at the IGA. Worth a stop for backpackers stocking the hostel kitchen — a $25 bag of single-origin makes everyone at the hostel like you considerably.
