Digital nomad in Byron: actually usable WiFi cafes + workspaces

Most Byron WiFi is decorative. Here's what actually works for calls.

Byron is a digital nomad destination by reputation more than reality. The town's mobile + fixed-line infrastructure is improving but most cafes have WiFi that's fine for email and dies on video calls.

The places that genuinely work for remote work:

- Stone & Wood beer garden — surprisingly good wifi, you can sit for 3 hours with one drink and they're fine with it. Open afternoon. - Top Shop — solid wifi, decent power outlets, but the queue at brunch hours makes laptops awkward. - Byron Bay General Store — co-working-style tables, reliable wifi. - Folk — outdoor garden seating, the wifi reaches most tables, dawn-til-3pm. - Combi — wifi works but the volume in the cafe is high; not great for calls.

For dedicated workspaces: - The Cape Byron Coworking (varies by location) — paid day passes around $30-40. - Life in Byron hostel — has dedicated workspace areas and the best hostel wifi in town. If you're staying 1+ weeks for remote work, this is the choice. - Wake Up! Byron Bay — wifi is solid in the lobby + bar area. Bring a fully charged laptop; outlet count is limited.

The fallback that always works: hotspot your Boost Mobile / Telstra prepaid phone. Telstra coverage is consistently the strongest network in the Northern Rivers.
